Facilities
Highly efficient manufacturing systems require superb industrial facility design to provide the necessary support for 24/7 operations.
- Ventilation is required to collect, transport and remove hazardous air pollutants (dusts, fumes, toxic chemicals) from the workplace. Special expertise is required to ensure a proper balance of air flows and pressure in the plant.
- Conditioned Water is required in plants for a whole range of purposes. Water, conforming to exacting specifications, must be provided on demand for sanitation, cooling, rinse baths, diluting chemicals, beverages and food processing. Any water used in the process should be recycled if at all possible.
- Wastewater may be collected and drained from the plant. Wastewater treatment will normally be required. At a minimum, pH must be neutral, oil & grease must be removed, flammable solvents eliminated, chlorinated organics must be avoided, and excess solids removed.
- Steam / Hot Water is an important commodity and required in about all manufacturing processes. Steam and hot water must be produced economically and heat recovered to the maximum extent possible.
- Compressed Air from low to high pressure is required for a wide range of industrial operations and must be produced in an economical manner. VFDs are useful at matching air demand to supply.
- Electrical must be distributed to the manufacturing floor and to facilities in an efficient and economical manner.
- Chemical Storage is used to provide a steady supply of production chemicals. Hazardous chemicals are subjected to numerous regulations and codes, including EPA, OSHA, Building and NFPA. Containment and emergency response to spills must be considered and incorporated into the design.
